The Navy will train anyone who joins in any field they qualify for. It makes no difference for race, religion, creed, or gender. If test scores show an aptitude for any one of the 130 + ratings, then she would be encouraged to pursue that training. In many instances, the test scores show an aptitude for several of the ratings (or specialties) from which to choose.
The Navy's role is to ensure dominance of the high seas, and to "take the fight" to someone else's "back-yard". In this way, they supply delivery of ground troops, direct support in combat of ground troops, re-supply of ground troops, and battle readiness of their own units.
The United States Navy is a good career for anyone willing to work hard, and study hard. The task of training is never-ending from the time of oath administering, to the time of transferring to retirement or being released from active duty.
To make the best of the opportunities, one will only get out of it what they put into it.

The worst thing about being a female in the navy is that you can't get submarine duty. I'd love to serve on a submarine.

Someone has to sail those ships. I was in the Navy and the women were great to work with. Most of them were hookers so it was like a bonus !

Tell her to go airforce...I was in the navy, and they don't treat women well. The airforce is an overall better deal anyway.
