I know that they need to be bathed, but how often? What else do I need to do? I have never had a dog before, so I am new to this.

I bathe my Frenchies every month when they are not being shown, and every week when they are. Just be sure you use a high quality shampoo for dogs and clean their wrinkles every day.

Actually it depends on your dog. Bathing your dog too often is not good as it depletes his natural protective oils. You should really only bath your dog when he is dirty (you can tell by the smell...:)) A short haired dog can go months with out a bath. As long as you take the time to brush him periodically, a bath every 4 to 6 months should suffice.

if you do have to give your dog a bath, make sure that you get a gentle shampoo and you may want to get a cream rinse as well. There are a lot of products out there, so take your time and do a little research to find the best brand for your dog.

French Bulldogs are pretty low maintence in the grooming department. Other then baths when they smell or are dirty. Checking that their ears are clean and you can buy ear cleaning solution at petsmart or from your vet. French bulldogs though you need to look out for sinus infections as well as body issues. They can easily get sinus infections, have some have trouble breathing and have issues with their health. As long as you keep him on a good brand of food it will reduce these issues. Otherwise they are great dogs and have fun with your new puppy.
