Is it possible to throw up pieces of the lining of your esophagus? Skin-like material that can be stretched that is shaped like long nails with round edges that haven't been interferred with by acids? It's obviously not been chewed down because it came up in perfect condition. Or is it the from the lining of the trachea? I know when you throw up that it doesn't come from the trachea, but I am curious to find out. Or does it have to do with tonsils or the glands?

It's theoretically possible to do almost anything in medicine if you are wierd enough - however, it's pretty hard to throw up the lining of your esophagus.

The esophagus is lined by a very tough cell type arranged in layers and layers so it can withstand the friction of all kinds of junk we might swallow.

What you are describing doesn't sound typical of esophageal lining and VERY different from tracheal lining which is totally different stuff.

If you are very worried you might need to see your family doctor who can refer you to a gastroenterologist. They are the proceduralists who would do an endoscopy (telescope test) to look with a fibreoptic telescope into your esophagus and see if you are sloughing off bits.

Do you have a sore neck? It would be very painful to have these bits come off your esophagus.

Other possibilities:
o Infection - eg esophageal candidiasis
o Are you biting your tongue (lining of tongue is keratinized and more like skin)
o Esophageal webs
o Some kind of foodstuff that is creating this effect
(all the other wierd stuff: drugs, parasites, cancer - unlikely but wierd)

Yes, but not likely...that would be very painful. if you have lots of problems with acid reflux or GERD you could really destroy your lining of the esophagus but most people know of this problem because of the pain and burning sensation. It's possible that you have a small abnormal pouch (?Zanker's diverticula)in your esophagus that catches food. this food can then be either thrown up or occasionally will come up on it's own. People with this usually have problems with bad breath as well as chewed but not digested food particles being regurgitated into their mouth. This is pretty rare though but it's the only thing that I could think of. Either way i would get checked out.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/JUWUV
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.
