Because false religions do that. Its so scary. They mix a LITTLE bit of truth, with a big lie, and people take it as truth. THey are deceptive and very sneeky, like the bible says they will be.

The bible says that they will come as a wolve in sheeps clothing. They make people think they are right, throwing out words like Jesus, and God, and saved, but they are mixing it all up, and are very very scary to get into. Mormonism is a cult to the fullest.

So sad the ignorance in this world. I studied world religions and cults in college. You obviously do not know what a cult is. Cults are not world religions. Especially not protestant ones where the main church leader is in the public view and involved in many aspects of politics and humanitarian efforts across the world.
Funny thing about Mormons: they can come and go as they please. Violates a HUGE rule of being a cult. Oh and people are invited to join a service any time the like. Services are not in secret, Violates another rule.
Do some research and studies. I am not talking about Internet wackos. I mean religion courses and studies.
Mormonism is a recognized Protestant world religion with members in politics, acting, singing, sports, etc...
How many cult members do you see playing pro sports?
How many cults do you see donating thousands of dollars to humanitarian efforts and delivering food and clothing to third world countries all over the world.
Look, I could go on all day. But that would mean I would have to teach you everything I have learned in school. Try learning on your own. Better yet, pop in for a surprise visit one Sunday. Learn for yourself.
So so so sad. Only a question like this would come from an uneducated person.

Why do people like you ask questions when you're not genuinely looking for an answer? You've already made you decision on what you think about Mormonism... so what? Are you going to make "others see the light" now?

The word "cult" in itself has such derogatory connotations in itself. What I fail to see is what is so different about Mormonism than Catholicism or Judaism, etc... sure you can spout off dogmas and teachings all day, but in what ways do they teach it differently? I've been to religious gatherings of many religions including all of the previously stated. Out of all of them, I honestly found the Southern Baptists to be the most forceful... All of them have some middle aged man standing above everyone else telling them what to believe in because that's what they believe in.
Think for yourselves people; everything will be OK.

I believe that the christian definition of a cult is any group who does not agree to the terms of the nicene council. At least that's what I was taught when I was a brainwashed young lad. And mormonism, while it has all the merits of a religion, fails to adhere to the nicene creed and therefore is dubbed a cult.

The only difference between mainstream religions and cults are the number of adherents each claim. All religions start off as cults.

Utah Mormonism is , yet no longer that unique corporation Joseph Smith set up in 1830 . The motive replaced into to repair the 1st century Christianity back to earth . The e book of Mormon is basically the dealings of Jesus with some Mid-easterners who crossed the sea to significant u.s. in the past . And the accident between the Mayan god , Quetzalcoatl , who replaced right into a white guy , had a brown beard and long hair , did some good stuff for the [human beings , and informed them that he might return to them from the east sooner or later and Jesus is basically too large .

When people hear of Gods Saving Grace. They reject God and His Truth.

It is written that God turned some over to a deceiving spirit because they denied Jesus Christ and didn't love God and Gods Truth.

I think that is a what cults are. The devil provides a teaching that contradicts with Gods Truth in the Holy Bible. Because they refused to love the Truth and Come to Gods Saving Grace, that God turned them over to a deceiving spirit. The deceiving spirit is a liar.

It's no more of a cult than any other religion. Any group of people that believe in things that can't be proven, is considered a cult.
