We like to think people want to become doctors to help others, cure disease, ease hunam suffereing, etc. The sad truth, however, is that by the third year of med school all they think about is money. It may sound cynical but it's the way of life.

I am in med school right now, and let me tell you it is not about the money. We go over 200000 dollars in debt paying for school, only to start out making 45000 during residency. Basically you will eventually make good money, but there are better ways. I am sure there are those who go in it for the wrong reasons, but the majority don't.
Personally I chose to go into medicine because I had been a certified nursing assistant and really loved it, but wanted to be able to do more. I really enjoy the diagnosis. I love the challenges it presents, problem solving is something I have always enjoyed. I had thought about going into nursing, but I didn't want to be stuck having to deal with doctor's orders I didn't agree with. There are many reasons people go into it, not just to make money.

There cannot be or rather is not one paticular reason for this. Sometime back, only doctor and engineering were considered as great professions.
Nowadays, there r lot of other fields of study and different professions which r as good and great and students can choose their profession acc to their interests and capacity.

Its a very respected position and the pay is much higher than that of a person working in a factory or an office as a clerk. The bad aspects are...crazy or difficult patients, over work and over tax.

What's wrong with that? If it is for the right reason; to help human kind, then it is admirable. If it for the wrong reason; money and prestige, then it is horrible.
