Certainly not what they used to make. Technology is reducing the work load and improving reliability all the time. It's hard to get lost with GPS technology anymore.

It depends on several factors. Airline, type of aircraft, logged hours, pilot ratings (instrument / multiengine ), and responsibility. Someone carrying the mail in remote Kansas will not make as much as a Captain of a B747 passenger aircraft.

It's a respectable living, though, and you won't starve as a pilot. As for actual numbers, it's a large range. Rookies as low as $20,000 per year to the very experienced $200,000+. But don't expect that high end to continue, it keeps getting less and less.

My advice, find a job you love. That way you will never work another day of your life. If that's flying, good for you.

Early on, working for a regional airline you make near the poverty level after taxes... talking about 20,000 a year... then things get better with seniority... for a major airline pilot with over 10 years seniority its not uncommon to see them making 100,000 a year.
