It all depends on your back. If I sleep more than two days on a soft mattress, I can barely sit up the third day. Many people have said that my mattress is too firm. My dad sleeps on what amounts to a plywood slab.

I definitely prefer a firm mattress. My back doesn't do well on a soft one.
