We have a 6 month old yellow lab that is scared of EVERYTHING. You would honestly believe that we mistreat her if you saw her. She is extremely lovable, but runs and hides at the drop of a hat. My husband bought her to dove hunt with, but that's not going to happen she would just hide. Is there anything we can do to calm her down and be less of a chicken?

we take gun shy dogs outside and creat noises such as a few pebbles in a can and shake occasionally or rattle keys. when selecting a dog do this to determine which puppy is curious to the sounds and which ones shy away.

Your puppy is suffering from a lack of self confidence. You'll have to raise her self esteem and one of the best things you can do is to enroll her in a puppy class. Besides the puppy class, if you know some of the things that scare her, you can start to desensitize her to those situations or things. Start off by slowly introducing her to things that scare her and gradually raise the intensity. GO SLOW...if you go too fast you willl set back all the previous work you have done. This will take time and lots of patience, but it will work out in the end. I would suggest that you do some research or better yet, talk to a behaviour consultant and he or she can set up a program for you and your puppy.

Good luck!

I see no reason to want an aggressive dog. Yellow labs are not supposed to be mean, they are companions to children and hunting companions. Give her time to learn to hunt, Take her car rides. He will have to teach her to not be afraid of guns. Just don't shoot too close to her at first until she gets used to it. maybe use a bb gun or pellet gun until she learns about hunting birds.

No, they can't. Goldfish are potential food for cichlids. And also, even 9 cichlids should have at least a 10 gallon tank!

I agree with Kismetsguardian's answer. She's lacking confidence for one reason or another. Playing with a lot may also help her regain some of her confidence.
