If you know the funeral home where the service was held, sometimes they will post the obituary online, or you can call them and ask for a copy. They might direct you to the newspaper that printed the obituary and they also would be able to send or possibly email you a copy. Good Luck!

There are many online newspapers... but not all of them. And not everyone even HAS an obit.
What you need is a date and place of death. Rootsweb has free access to the social security death index, that has those dates from about 1960ish to almost current. If your person falls into this time range, look for them in there, assuming they died in the US.
Once you have that info, google for a newspaper in the area where they lived, to see IF they are online and IF they include obituaries. Otherwise, you may have to contact them the old fashioned way.

You must search the newspaper that it was originally listed in.
Then search by date.

GOOD QUESTION, HAVEN'T SEEN MY MOTHER IN YEARS BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SHE IS DEAD OR ALIVE......Guess I too will have to ask around.
