I know of people using surgical markers to draw on the skin and then tattooing over it but how about Sharpies? Tattoo artists, Is it common/safe to use them? Or is there a special marker that is specifically for drawing on the skin prior to tattooing? What do you use?

Sharpies work fine for everyone i know, however theres a big trend in using a special skin stylus thats been going round a lot of conventions. Its basically a fancy ball point gel pen but it doesnt come off the skin so easily, even under vaseline. Surgical markers are also pretty common. Even an ordinary gel pen will do the same thing, the problem is how well it stays once you start wiping etc. Great feeling to get halfway through and realise you've lost half your stencil.

My artist uses sharpies...even used them on my backpiece and yes it is safe. We even made jokes about it being a "permanent marker"! LOL "Why bother with the ink and needles if this marker here is 'permanent' and doesn't hurt a bit!" heheh Took awhile to get all the remnants of bright pink sharpie off my back, but other than that, no issues!

I need some clarification here, Tim: Are you drawing a penis that doesn't otherwise exist onto your body? Or artistically decorating a pre-existing appendage? Either way I feel a sombre, frowny face to be the more appropriate expression. Men's front bottoms are no laughing matter! I look forward to your update.

Most tattoo artists use sharpies so you are good to go try and pick a color that is oppisite of what you are tatting like if your outline is black go with silver , red , something you will be able to see the balck line you are tatting through so you no your place.
