Pattern side up, because that's the way I think it looks best. I have been told its suppose to be down but my theory is you don't look at that side once your in bed.

Pattern side down, that way when you flip the sheet over to make the bed the pattern is facing up.

It's supposed to be pattern side down so when you fold over the top, the pattern shows.

You put your top sheet pattern face down, so when you turn your sheet down it shows the pattern face up.

Pattern side down, so the sleeper can see the pattern and it can be seen in the little fold at the top.

I have heard that you should put the top sheet pattern side down so that when you fold it over the top edge of the bedspread/coverlet/etc. the pattern shows.

Pattern side down, so that when the top edge is folded down on top of the blanket, the pattern shows. I(f you care about such things.)

It should look good when you or guests look at your bed when the bed is made. So the pattern side should be up to make the bed look good. When you go to sleep, who cares about the patterns anymore?
