You're about the 1% of the general population that actually needs a vehicle this large, yet about 40% of the population has actually has a vehicle this size.

BTW, your answer on my global warming question was about the worst I've seen (quote: for every scientist you have touting global warming as the end of the world I can find one who says the opposite. Huh? Bring me a fellow Scientist who will espouse the views you claim they do...)

You don't have to go quite that big to get 8 seats. We have an Explorer XLT that has a third row seat that can be folded down for storage. And it has a V6 so we can hook up and tow just about anything. I think you'll just have to test drive as many as possible to figure out what works best for your needs.

If you want safe and economical, you shouldn't be looking at American cars because they are neither.
Go for something japanese or korean.
