If your parents just adopted him from a shelter or a rescue group, its normal for a dog to be scared of a new enviorment. Since his history is unknown, just bea as gentle and freindly as you can. Try to learn his boundries, what he likes, what scares him. Are you parents acting any different around him? Treats are a very good way to make a new freind. Try to be around him as much as you can, get him to be used to your presence. Going on walks with him is a great way to be able to bond, and for him to learn to respect you.
Good luck!

Provided you have not done something to upset the beast, you should not be too concerned. The dog is probably still trying to figure out the 'pack' status... the dog understands that Dad and Mom are the leaders of the pack (the Alphas, as it were). Poochie probably has not decided about you, are you a 'step-littermate, an Alpha offspring, a lower pack member, or just what.(?)
Here are some hints that should get you two on the right track. Try giving the dog treats (food), in very very small amounts. This should be done sporadically, and should never be of a large portion. Example might be a slice of cheese, you know the type, comes in slices from the store. cut it into eight or more pieces, and take one, only one Little piece and offer it to Fido. Use your open hand fully extended so the tidbit can be licked off your palm. Trying not to get your fingers nipped here)
This should be done a couple of times a day for a few days. Mos likely the poochie will then be approaching you to seek out the tasty treats. Take this opportunity to lavish the doggie with some petting. The dog will very likely soon develop a unique relationship with you, as a pal. Try playing with the dog, like fetch-it games or just going out for walks, these activities will pay off very quick.
Good luck, and I wish you success!

Leave your parent's dog alone!! It's their gos...NOT YOURS!! When you are an adult & on your own, then you can decide what breed of dog you want to adopt. And do not be mean or abusive to this animal just because you don't like it. I feel you are a spoiled child & may resort to harming this pet just so you can get your way. You say that you will do anything to get rid of it and you should be ashamed of yourself. I am sure this dog is much nicer looking than you are & will give your parents less trouble than you will.

Wow, this is what exactly happened to me!
Ok the dog the my parents got was very MEAN to me, he would bite me even if I wasn't touching him. He'd growl everytime I was 10 feet away. But this is how I got him to like me:
1. Get some good meat/food/treats you think he'll like.
2. come up to him slowly.
3. You have to be careful unless he wants to bite so use the tips of your fingers to hold the food.
4. He'll sniff it but he doesn't trust you yet so don't go and pet him while he's sniffing it.
5. when he takes a bite, let go of itand let him eat.
6. repeat untill you see him following you/licking you/wagging his tail.
7. do this everyday and he'll come to like you!
WAH LA! A happy dogg!
My parents dog came to like me the best and now he's practically my pet! He even sleeps with me!

hes probably scared - dont make him do anything. thats how our dog was at first, but she warmed up to us. just always b nice around him and try to get bonding time w him. if u give him a treat a day, make sure ur the one to give it to him, or give him food, or let him out, etc stuff like that. that should help alot. also, get him a toy and play with it. dont act menacing and try to become as small as possible round him cuz i mean, hes soo tiny compared to a human lol
hope that helps =] good luck!

I made my dog like me by giving it treats at first and then mabey giving it food like MABEY food scrapes if okay with parents but not to much NOT even once a WEEK then after a week start to pet it then it will be your best frined just make sure you give it dog treats first. Make sure YOU feed it out of YOUR hand or it will not no if it is you giving all those treats.

Feed him. I swear this works. And if you have a tendancy to tell the dog No a lot, say you are annoyed he barks, you may want to lay off that for awhile.
Try feeding him treats (don't overdo it, you still want him to be healthy). Also don't feed chocolate, that will kill a dog.
If treats don't work ask your parents if you can feed the dog his food for awhile. It'll work.

Kick him gentlely in the man parts while kissing his snout. This will reinforce his post-emational tendencies while reducing his displacia. Do this twice a day for three weeks and you'll be guaranteed to see results.
