I really don't understand why your doctor would go for a particular day. Your baby will come out when it wants to unless you want a c-section. I feel that your doctor didn't mean that sex would strip your membrane. Having sex in the last stage of pregnancy leads to labor for some ladies. The reason for this is that sperm contains some hormone in it which leads to labor. That is the reason that some doctors say no to sex in early pregnancy in case of high risk. But it will in no way strip your membrane. Sometimes sex is very relaxing during the last phase and so it accelarates labor.
Anyway good luck and I hope you have a normal delivery

I'm truly SHOCKED that a doctor would recommend such things for a mother to do let alone, the chances of harm to the unborn child!!!
I highly suggest that for the next pregnancy you find a different doctor.
Blue Cohosh...DANGEROUS
Caster Oil...DANGEROUS
Stripping of Membranes...IMMENSELY DANGEROUS
Sex??? This is absolutely fine and natural
Why MUST you have this child by "Friday"?? That confused me a bit...
Please let nature take it's course.... you wrote ::::: I dint want to take anything in to my system that can effect me nor my unborn child.
You just answered your own question!!!!!

I'm amazed by all the 'Doctors are geniuses who never make mistakes, but the person who helped get the baby there in the first place is an utter incompetent' answers...
Perhaps it should have been 'If you have to ask on Yahoo! Answers, you don't have enough knowledge to do it safely on your own.' I mean, I Googled instructions on how to do it in seconds.
You'd still be doing what you don't want to do, viz: "take anything in to my system that can effect(sic) me nor my unborn child." It is not without risks. It is still messing around with natural processes.
And it's not going to help avoid further fiddling anyway if your doctor is induction-happy, and it'll likely hurt.
"Possible complications of sweeping of membranes such as rupture of membranes, intrapartum infection, postpartum infection, and neonatal infection...
Up to 70% of women found that this procedure was associated with significant discomfort. One third of these women complained of significant pain.
Sweeping of membranes beyond 40 weeks does not reduce the need for formal induction of labour at 42 weeks."

Why do you have to go into labor by Friday? That is really freaky to be told that by a doctor. The baby will come out when he's ready. If for medical reasons your baby needs to be delivered by Friday, your doctor could induce labor at the hospital. I think your doctor is telling you some really odd things. Be careful

if you want to strip your membranes, get your dr to do it. From what I have read, you shouldn't do it by yourself. Castor oil isn't usually recommended either, because of the laxative effect it can have on the baby and the pain it can cause you.
Really, your baby is going to come when it wants to. Your baby has to produce a hormone before it will come out and all those methods will do is produce the hormone in you, thus leading to unnecessary pain and discomfort that gets you no further along than if you just waited.

Just stick with sex and walking.... the last thing you want to do is have your husband up there causing a potential infection. Castor oil didn't work for me. Stretching my cervix two different times didn't work.
The only thing that worked was just waiting for nature to take it's course!!

No, No, No...do not let your hubby try to do that. I wouldn't even let my dr. do it. They did that to me with my 2nd baby and it hurt like a you-know-what and did not help at all. I just walked around for two days in pain and bleeding. I still needed to be induced after all was said and done. Keep up with the walking and sex, it it's not too painful for you. Lots of luck to you and hope you have a smooth and easy delivery.

A doctor told you to let your husband strip your membranes???? Well, that doesn't sound right! I had my membranes stripped by my doctor and it was VERY PAINFUL and he knew what he was doing....I don't suggest you let your husband dig up in there!! *L*
