I live in Chicago and met a woman from Colombia, we started dating and after a while she had to go back. I then went to stay with her, we had a great time and decided to keep the relationship going. She now lives with me and and we'd like to get married. How do we go about this, the paperwork, legal issues, all of these things? I've no clue on this.

I would call a lawyer who is a specialist in the field. Or just call immigration services (albeit pretending to be concerned with a friend) and just ask them the steps you should take. Hope all goes well and you have a beautiful life together. God Bless.

mmmm...how does she live here? on a tourist or working visa? if it's a tourist, you need to go to columbia, get married, and then apply for a spousal visa. it will take anywhere from 5-12 mo on average to complete this process and then your wife will be a legal resident of the US and able to work and have the same rights as most all of us have. after 5 years, she can be a citizen.

the reason why you shouldn't get married here, is that it may appear that she entered the US on false pretenses...she said was coming to either vacation (or possibly work) and then she gets married....it doesn't make her look very forthcoming and it pisses off immigration.

Be very careful with this, reason being. This is typical for people coming here on vacation and finding someone that is typically a little too (KIND), and basically take advantage of the person there with and once they get married and have the same rights as you, they usually will leave you and take everything you previously worked your *** off for, do you understand what's going on here.

nicely, does she decide to pass to the US in any respect? If married, you are able to elect the country of place of living between Switzerland, Korea and the US... in reality, i do no longer see any issues in any respect - if wanting to stay interior the US it possibly is the least confusing to have her vacationing to the US with a vacationer visa yet all the needed papers for a marriage. If finding out directly to marry in Switzerland (very romantic) the US embassy in Switzerland would provide you all information needed (see link).

The only way you can get married is in Colombia, good luck.

Maybe she just wants to use you to get citizenship... is she too out of your league?
