Act decent and you;ll be fine. Don't tell any offensive jokes, just joke about what's going on around you, or the news or something clever. Nothing dumb, it never works.
Most importantly, don't act like a completely different person than what you really are. It's better to scare some girls away than to attract the wrong ones. Don't try to talk to a girl that has nothing at all to do with you. Strike up a conversation based on what she's wearing, in a positive light.
It takes a long time to get it right, but you will. Just keep trying.

I agree with the others just be yourself.... you dont have to be saying corny jokes or lines all the time because it can get really annoying...just being yourself will attract someone who apprieciates it! good luck, Mimi

be yourself girls can totally tell if a guy is a fake and we hate it so just be yourself and youll get the girl almost every time hopefully you wont have to try very many times

just dont try so hard b/c if you try too hard it will just be so obvious you are trying to impress someone. be mature. i have notice alot of immature guys talk about sex way too much like bragging about how far they have gone and how many times and crap and it just really makes them look desperate. i am sorry but your question reminded me of someone so i had to say that. just be yourself and remember not to try so hard. just have a good time.

just be genuinely kind and interested. that's what most girls are looking for, not some kind of humor all the time. be sweet, and then you can sprinkle a little sarcasm in your speech... but comedie isn't normally a huge factor...
