Many many years ago as a teenager, me and my mates would routinely try to determine if any easily accessible plant materials could give you a high. We tried all the usual....smoking dried banana skins and dried tarragon...all with no success. Until we tried nutmeg.......We each ate 2 whole nutmegs each with a pint of milk, and soon after felt rather sick...but this was more of the intensity of the flavour than anything else.....however a couple of hours later, things started happening..still the nausia, headache, giddiness, an intense thirst and a desire to talk complete bollocks very quickly....couldn't sleep that night, and couldn't wake up the next morning.....Yes you can get a high, but not a pleasant one. Also eating 2 nutmegs (as we researched later) was effectively voluntary poisoning.

The active ingredient of the 'meg' is myristicin, which gives it its characteristic taste.....and is rather good grated in bechamel sauce.....it is also a poison, and can kill.....there have been reported deaths.

Eating large amounts of nutmeg can cause physical and psychological effects, but it is the myristicin 'poison' that is causing those effects.

Please don't try it......it can be fatal.

Heard of it, never wanted to try it. According to Wikipedia, sources say "Large doses of 30 g or more are dangerous, potentially inducing convulsions, palpitations, nausea, eventual dehydration, and generalized body pain. In amounts of 5-20 g it is a mild to medium hallucinogen"
