I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Your mom is going to be depressed for a time, I know you are thinking on how to help her right now. But it might not be a good time for your mom to have a puppy. They are a lot of work and she just might not be up to it right now. For now I would just give her lots of love and time to heal. Tell her you would like to get her a yorkie when she is ready. And tell her to let you know when she is ready for one. good luck to you.

I am by no means a dog expert, but I have dogs and we foster cats and dogs both for our local animal rescue group. My first step would be to research the breed you have in mind (in this case a Yorkie). You need to know their general disposition, special needs, possible health problems they might be prone to as opposed to other breeds, etc. If she likes what she hears, I would contact a reputable breeder and go and spend some time playing with the Yorkies and figuring our if this breed is the right one for her. It is her decision, but if she does decide she wants a Yorkie, I would urge her to get a rescue pet instead of from a breeder. Trust me, there are so many "purebred" dogs that need homes more than people dream of. Our family is currenly fostering a Rottweiler with papers and another family has a German Shepard with papers and some show wins. Both were abandoned for unknown reasons. Places she could inquire about adoptions are: local animal shelters and the Internet. These days, a lot of organizations specialize in doing breed specific rescue. Just type in something like "yorkie dog rescue" and you should get a national list that you can pick your state from on some websites. However, if she plans to show the dog, she might want to go with a breeder simply so she will have the documentation. My main advice is no matter what source she chooses, breeder or rescue adoption, make sure the dog she gets is the right fit for HER. There is nothing wrong with making as many visits to the facility and socializing with the dogs to see which one you prefer. I would suggest going at least 2 times as factors that determine dog behavior can change. Also, before she actually gets it, if the facility allows the option of getting a vet exam before purchase or adoption, I would do that. And if she does get a dog, no matter what kind, I would highly recommend she and the dog take a Beginner Obedience Class from a quialified person. A lot of major pet store chains like PetSmart offer classes. This will help make her and the dog much happier with each other if the dog knows what is expected of it and will listen to your Mom. My dogs are not Wonder Dog by NO means, but Obedience Class not only improved my ability to handle them but is excellent for socialization for the dog and for your Mom to meet like minded people. Good Luck!

Why a Yorkie, buy her a monkey they just like a little kids ,and you can dress the monkey in girl clothes, let them play with dolls, and do house works., but a Yorkie no way, they eats, shits, and don,t shuts the hell up.

I recommend checking www.petfinder.com and searching for yorkies by your zip code. That is a great way to adopt a shelter animal

I suggest a bloodhound. They have a much better nose for hunting down lost people than a yorkie.

Try looking in your local newspapers for people with puppies, just stay away from people that have multiple litters of puppies or petstores.
