Tongues have all kinds of lumps and bumps that belong there. I have not seen your tongue, but you have not described anything out of the ordinary.

Since you are African-American, you will have more pigmentation everywhere - including the little black spots on the tip of your tongue. You can't get rid of them. I see this in my practice every day of the week.

If you have been on antibiotics, this can cause oral thrush or you can just have thrush. It can be painful if it is not treated. I had this and it sounds like a taste bud has swollen. These can turn white and get big. Mine got big and fell off. You can a gel at the chemist over the counter for this. Dacterin, in the UK. See your doctor just to protect yourself for peace of mind.

Good Luck.

you may have whats called a hairy tongue... it's a fungus that grows in usually patients with auto immune disorders or people with dry mouth... there's a mouth wash your dentist can give you as well an antifungul medication... buy yourself a tongue scraper and clean your tongue 2 x a day with it....
