I noticed this in my cat Spook (10 yrs.) at around 7pm today. His tail is always up but now his tail is limp. He growled at me when I was checking his tail, but showed to signs of pain around his tail, except around the base. So I told my mom, and she checked him too. He growled also.

So later (around 10pm) my mom and I were going upstairs and Spook followed as usual. But he was very slow up the stairs (he's usually quite fast), and was taking one step at a time and meowing & growling the entire time. He meows and almost "squeaks" when we pick him up to check his tummy for something.

So, we put him on the bed, and my mom started to feel around to see if she could feel any tumors and such. She said that his left rear leg fells differant than the other, and he does try to roll away when we feel that leg.

& for the past 5 months I've noticed smelling leakage from his anus every now and then when he's picked up. We also have one other cat. What's goingon with Spook?

Hi Hannah...there are many possibilities which could contribute to the tail hanging such as injury from a fall, neurological disorder or something more critical. With regards to the leaking anus cats will get impact anal glands and need to have their anal sacs expressed in order to alleviate this. Both of these merit a medical evaluation as soon as possible as well. If finances are of concern you can ring most local veterinarians and ask if they offer charitable assistance or at least direct you to someone who can assist you.

He may have some sort of injury. Is he an outside cat? If so, it is possible he has gotten hit by a car. You may want to take him to a vet to have him checked. By him growling at you and your mom is his way of letting you know that he is in pain.
