Please compare these two cases and tell me whether you yourself would have preferred either of these two solutions to the one that actually happened, or whether either of them would have been better than what actually occurred. Please go into as much detail as possible without writing a term paper. When it's all in I will post my own thoughts. Thanks.

South Carolina is where it all started. This state was the first to claim states rights and the first to secede from the union. It was all over money. Congress imposed an inter-state commerce tariff on all goods shipped across state boundaries. This meant that raw goods destined to factories in the north would be taxed on the way up, and finished goods leaving the factories would be taxed coming back. Congress even went along with this action, and ordered Federal troops to turn over Fort Sumpter to the state of South Carolina.

If the war had not been fought, there would be three nations on this Continent. Canada, United States of America (USA), and The Confederate States of America (CSA).

If the South won the war, then we would have the same situation. The CSA would probable have a few more states than originally (like the three states which did not secede but were slave-holding states).

I doubt the South could have won the war. They didn't have the manpower or resources to win. I don't think they meant to start a war but Lincoln's lack of diplomacy forced their hand. The South was so decimated that if they had seceded, they would have been bankrupt.

The best scenario would be no war. Over 600,000 Americans were killed and half of the country was destroyed. There was slavery in South America and this was abolished without a civil war. The country would have been in a much better position if there hadn't been a war.

If the south had won the civil war there would have been one more separate country in north America. The northern country would have ended up being the richer of the two cousins and may have rejoined the united states. The civil war was responsible for the gun society and much human tragedy. It would have been better if it never happened.

I am from the south and i love the south, but if the north had not won the civil war, we would be in one more hell of a shape. It is bad enough as it is.
