I don't think there is such a thing as a dog that won't get lonely alone. Dogs bond to their owners and when you are gone, you'll be missed and you'll need to crate to give the little one a sense of security or there will quite likely be damage.
My best suggestion is not the type of dog, but the age.
If you can find a middle aged or older dog surrendered because it's elderly "parent" passed away, it will be used to a quiet life. A puppy requires a great deal of time, patience and shoe hiding...
I had a wonderful lab we raised until age 3 and then found a home with a yard and a stay at home parent to give her to... it was unfair to leave her home alone though it broke our hearts to let her go, it was the right thing to do for her.
Cats do better as single working person's pets. They are very independent and will bond to you. You don't have to walk them.
Dogs do best when someone is home most of the day....
If you are comfortable with all the above and do get a dog, I'd go with a mix - a mutt if you will. Less tendency for medical issues due to inbreeding. Meet Mom and Dad if you can. If they are both mellow, you have a better shot at a mellow pup.
Just my opinion..

I suggest a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or an English Toy Spaniel. Spaniels make great companions and will miss you when you leave, but will not go nuts the whole time you are gone like some Terrier breeds.
Visit your local shelter and consider the smaller dogs there. Shelter dogs often make greater companions than puppies because he/she is so grateful you have rescued him/her.
If you do not find an ideal companion dog at the shelter, try a breed specific rescue. If all fails, find yourself a wondeful breeder of the breed you desire and prepare yourself for the wonders of puppyhood.

A dog won't be happy sitting alone in a house for 7 hours every day. I would highly suggest that you wait or get a cat instead.

But if you truly have your heary set on a dog, just get something small. I suggest going to a shelter and looking around there. Just keep in mind that they will be very demanding when you get home from being alone all day.

I suggest you find a local dog show to attend. That way you can see many breeds and be able to chat with owners/breeders. Check out websites such as AKC.org to read about different breeds. That way you will have an idea about different dogs and ones you maybe more interested in.
Good luck in your search.

No terriers! Get something from the non-sporting or toy group. They all have the same basic needs. Have you considered a rescued greyhound? They're alreadly trained, they don't mind being crated for long periods. They're low-maintenance.

if you can afford it a french bulldog is good.
however something tells me that you'd like a papillion.
it's a lil yappy but for a small dog it isn't terribly needy and it's not as hyper as a terrier and they're smarter than most any little dog.

Yorkies are ypiiy and can be viscious. Just buy any dog that Paris Hilton, or any other celebutard does NOT own. Perhaps a cat?
