I have a 21 month old daughter, and the other day I was walking outside with her. She loves walking everywhere, and hates being in her pushchair- the only time she'll go in it is if she is about to go to sleep.
So, whilst walking, I was surprised when someone stopped me to tell me it was raining too much and that my daughter should be covered by sitting in her pushchair with the raincover over her...I was so shocked that I didn't know what to say to him!
It wasn't raining a great deal, and I don't think that she should be denied the chance of a walk just because it's raining!

So, was I being an awful parent, or do any of you let your toddlers walk when its raining?

No this doesn't make you a bad parent.. I let all my children playing in the rain, heck they even went and played in the mud while it was raining.. Tears from Heaven never hurt anyone...

No, you're not an awful parent.

When my son was your daughter's age, after watching the summer rain while sitting in our porch, I would let him run out and splash and jump in the puddles! It's such a joy to watch your little one enjoy the wonders of nature!

You know exactly that you're doing the right thing. Childhood is the only time it seems that it's exactly acceptable to run out and enjoy the rain and jump in puddles!

Don't deny your child to enjoy the day! Even if it's raining!

Cheers!

Hey don't feel bad, I was in a similar situation. Kids love the rain and I beleive it's okay to let them enjoy it a little, as long as they are properly dressed. If it is very yucky out then maybe you want to think twice about walking long distances. I think it is good excersice for the two of you, and your daughter is having a great time, outside using her senses so spish splash away.

Try not to let nosy spectators get to you, like I often do.

As long as the child wasn't dressed inappropriately for the weather, who cares what that man says or thinks. Children love to splash in the water and feel it on their face. I'm mom to 3 and my children loved being able to walk in the snow, rain, or sun. You were fine, don't let other parents or other strangers make you feel badly.

As long as she is covered well with a proper rain jacket, rain boots, and a rain hat and/or an umbrella, I can't see how a nice walk in the rain could hurt her.

I love taking my daughter for walks in the rain...as long as it's not cold. Great photo opportunities!! Why do people care? Is she gonna melt or something??

tell them to shut up. take her out to jump in puddles every now and then just because its raining. keep on warm clothes and when you get home a warm bath and a good cartoon movie. other people are just snoby and nosey!!! its fun to watch them have little adventures, and to a toddler rain is like one of the coolest adventures.

Rain is only water and if she wasn't getting soaked to her skin it won't hurt her, and if you planned to dry her , so what its fun to get wet sometimes. Splash in the puddles smell the wet pavement. Enjoy, laugh, have fun. Thank the person for their advice, ignore them nicely and move on.

Warm rain, absolutely. It's water - your daughter won't melt.

Actually, if your daughter has the right attire, any rain will do... PUDDLES rule!

mine walk and sometimes play.. if its a cold rain you want to be careful of them getting to cold and wet, but dont worry about them to much.. if you are fine they most likely are too.. and she will tell you if she is uncomfortable..

So dont worry about walking in the rain... Enjoy spalshing in a few puddles while your at it :)
