Look at the job you wanna do, and break it down to either Army Navy or Air Force.

Army - Infantry, Tanks, Artillery, etc...

Navy - Ships, Submarines, etc...

Air Force - Jets, cargo planes, Air traffic controllers, etc...

The Marines do jobs the three above services can cover. The Marines have fewer bases (only non US base is Okinawa Japan), usually have older equipment, give less money for college, and the bases usually suck compared to any other service. The only benefit of joining the Marines is the Uniform and the title.

For job opportunities I would have to say Army, they give you an option of which job you would like to have. Marines didn't offer that neither did the Air Force. They just basically said to me...you will find out later. For pay reasons it actually depends on your rank and marital status. If you are single and starting at the lowest level then you really aren't going to get paid to well. I think that can be said across the board.

Well the Army and Marines put out the most personnel for combat. However, the Army keeps them there longer vs. the marines who only have 6 month deployments. I would think the Air Force would have the lowest fatality rate due to the fact that they have the four month deployments. If you aren't there then you aren't going to be shot at.

I couldn't tell you which is the best way to go but maybe this will help out. I don't want to be bias on this part.

honestly, i agree with the guy above me. i seriously won't want to be stuck in a division with you if my life was threatened. the pay you phrased your question, you already sound like one of those people who are only in it for the free ride and benefits, not for his country, honor, or because you ACTUALLY want to serve.

but to answer your question: it depends on what field you go into. navy isn't always safe. niether is air force. you have your navy seals who face danger every day. the seabees bust their rear ends a lot too. navy corpsmen often get sent off with marines and face dangers along side USMCs everyday. not always a walk in the park.

hands down marines and army have the most casualities.

air force has the best benefits in my opinion. good eating, pretty good pay. only thing is it's HARD to get promoted and they're SO overmanned right now it's rediculous.

take my advice though, unless you wanna straighten up that "i'm in it for the money, fun, and benefits" attitude, no matter what branch you join and no matter what field you go into, you're gonna hate it.

If you do it right you can really make out in the military. Look at length of service, locations of training, re-enlistment bonuses, shortages, comparable civilian job opportunities, overseas bases, etc., etc. It goes on and on. EXAMPLE: Army; after basic training you go to language school in Monterey, CA; it is long and arduous meaning you will make rank there. You then attend Military Intel. school in Ayre, Massachusetts. Then on to your first assignment in Japan or England. This can happen in all services; Navy might require you to go to sea; that can be a drag but the traveling is good. Rank advancement is best in the Army if you go into a field other than combat arms; most smart people get out of the army after their first enlistment (four years). the Army must then replace them by promotion. People tend to stay in the Air Force and Navy making advancement difficult.

Depends on what your interests are? If you are a tech guy the USAF and USN might be to your liking. If you are more of a type A personality then the army and the Corps might fit you better. All have danger as part of the deal. Plenty of USAF killed or injured in Iraq and there is a fair sized naval element on the ground there also. Mostly HM's, SEALS/EOD and sea-bees. Coast Guard faces a ton of danger regularly also, imaging crossing the bar in the graveyard of the pacific in a boat which is designed to right itself when rolled over? If you are worried about dying you should consider your options very carefully. Good luck.

Well if your not willing to go to combat don't join. If I have to answer this though, you would probably be safe in the navy just don't go IT, corman, or MA, because they get pulled with the army and marines a lot. Be a BM or EN or something of that nature. You will be on the boat a lot but it will keep you out of combat. For those that don't know ( IT - Information tech, MA - Master at arms, Corman - nurse, BM - Boats mate and EN - Electrical engeneer.)

I would say the Air Force.

Unless you are a pilot you won't see much fighting.

Pay is by rank & you rise through the ranks at much the same rate in each. It is mostly about time in grade.

The Marines & then the Army put the most men on the ground. (fighting that is)

I would have to say the Marines are the front force in battle which puts Army in second place.

My husband is in the Air Force and he has had
1) A wonderful work experience
2) The AF makes sure that we are taken care of
3) He hasn't died yet and doesn't plan to until old age.

The Air Force has treated us well.

Air Force, you get taught a trade not the RAF regiment or related services. We all go when our time has come. Life is for living.
