I have received a scholarship to return to school and attend AFROTC. I'm interested in the classes that I'll attend, your role in ROTC, and some of the ROTC events/functions/training. I'm particularly interested in field training and how that compares to basic training at Lackland. Currently, I'm enlisted and have been on active duty 3 years. Thanks to any and all for their answers!

Thanks for the answers thus far. To add more details...I earned an active duty scholarship called SOAR (Scholarship for Outstanding Airman). I'll separate from active duty in the summer and attend school at Kennesaw State in Georgia, while attend AFROTC at GA Tech. I believe field training will be at Maxwell AFB in AL. I should be going in the summer of 2008. I'll be one of the older ROTC cadets too. I'll be 27 when I attend field training, and I'll be 29 when I hopefully receive a commission. Thanks again for your help!

If you got a AFROTC scholarship, then you must be a really special candidate. I had a 3.8 GPA in high school as well as 3 years on a Varisity sports team, and I was denied a AFROTC scholarship. Now that the Army is getting all of the funding, USAF scholarships are extremely difficult to get, which is why i switched from the USAF to the Army. I do know that you will attend Field Training usually between your Junior and Senior years in college, and I believe that completing Field Training will promote you from the GMC into the POC. As far as comparing to basic training, Field Training is shorter (6 weeks?) and I hear its not as intense, the main difference being that you will get put in more leadership roles than in basic. If youve been on active duty for 3 years, I cant see anything that would give you any trouble, it should all be stuff youve done before. Hope this helps, and good luck.

And, in order that which you recognize, once you're darn stable at chinese language, they provide you a pay bonus. i'm no longer certainly particular if the Air tension does, yet I have been given an further bonus with each and each paycheck interior the Marine Corps through fact i'm a interior reach chinese language speaker and that i surpassed the attempt with flying colours.
