I have a male cat who just turned one year old. He hasn't been neutered, and he keeps spraying all over the place. Also, sometimes he would try to get out of the house to look for other females.

Is it alright to neuter a one year old male cat? Is it safe?

Yes its perfectly safe... best time to neuter is between 6 months and 2 years old... Its alot better to get him neutered now so that he doesn't succeed getting outside and either getting hit by a car or getting a kitty pregnant... Make an appointment with your vet ASAP, and surely enough he will stop spraying all over the house =) Good luck!!

Theres no reason why it wouldn't be safe if your cat is healthy. It will help with the spraying. Just make sure that your pet is healthy before neutering by having the vet do some pre-bloodwork. The sooner you neuter your cat the better. It will help prevent some complications that cats/animals can develope overtime if they are not neutered.

Sure. as long as there are no underlying health problesm like a bad heart, it is safe. The vet will listen to his heart when you take him in to be neutered - standard procedure. Moreover, the SPCA, animal shelters, etc routinely spay and neuter mature cats when needed - it is a relatively routine procedure these days. My cat Kaffe was not neutered until he was 2 years old. He is 9 now and still going strong.

Definitely! You can always neuter a male cat no matter what the age as long as they are over 6 months.

Pick up a phone and pose your question to a reputable vet. If I am not mistaken, you may have your male cat neutered much earlier than one year at or around six months. Please spay or neuter your pets; so many pets are put down cruelly. If money is an issue, call the SPCA or an organization like AARF in your area, and often, they will provide you with a voucher to assist you.

It's past the time when you should have had him neutered, but yes, it is certainly safe to have him neutered at one year old, or even a little later. No matter when you should have it done, it's better for the cat's health if you aren't going to breed him.

Of course. My cats are all females but I've had males. The spraying won't stop if you neuter him. He isn't doing it because he's horny, he's doing it because he is marking his territory. Its his way of letting other cats know its his house. I found that cleaning where a male cat sprays with ammonia helps stop the spraying. Even if he has always been an inside cat, its instinct for him to spray.

Actually you can neuter a cat anytime after he is 8 weeks old - at least 3 pounds. Now would be a great time to neuter him and it should stop his roving eyes and spraying!
Most animal shelters worldwide offer low fee spay services. If you are located in the USA you can ring 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a nearby participating shelter.

Yes yes yes!! Go! Go now! Go get it done!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANd while he's at the vet, scrub, clean, and throw away those things that have been sprayed upon. Sersiouly, if you can't clean it toss it.
I nutered 3 outta my 4 male cats over 1 year of age. I hesitated with them, because they never sprayed, and when i finally had enough money, I decided it would be best for the long run :)

yes it is safe, just to let you know tho cats only spray as a reaction to anxiety so i would look at what is making him stressed not only that but i wouldn't let him go outside. Cats can pick up all sorts of things outside, there was this group of scientists who did a study on what cats do a night and what they did was strap a camera to the cat to find out what it did outside every night, well it turned out that for all 8hrs the cat spent outside all it did was hunt and kill mice. Do you really want your cat bringing back disease that can be passed on to you? If birds can pass disease to us then so can cats!
Have your cat fixed!
