He is a blue male parakeet, of which I belive to be in good health

Yes youare suppose to cover so that they have even amounts of day light and night time so that their body clock is not confused.
Maybe healthy now but as it gets older it will definately be better if you have done this

Depends on the bird. Birds, like people, need undisturbed sleep. If the bird is in a room you can darken, then no, you don't need a cover. Sometimes, the bird may be scared of the covered cage. Other times, birds may refuse to go to sleep if the cage isn't covered, and will holler for it. If you turn down the heat in your house at night, covering the cage is really a good idea. overing a cage can help reduce screaching at the break of day.

You are supposed to cover the parakeet's cage at night. Also you might want to free him a little inside of the house, from time to time, and/or buy a companion for him so that he does not feel lonely and lives longer. Parakeets tend to need company.

what happens with my cockatiels is that at night i will cover them around 7- 7:30 pm and will uncover them at 7-7:30 because they like 12 hrs to sleep, I do this so they wont be so pissy during the day.

yes i suggest you do i cover my parakeets cage every night ans when i do that she knows it's time to go to sleep and it helps her to get her rest so she can be able to be active instead of sleeping all day

Yeah, you should cover the cage at night. You can just drape a towel or cloth over it so he knows its night.

I have a bird my self. If u go to bed really late then yes because u dont want to keep them up with light because they are actracted to u and go to sleep when u do. And if you have to put some thing over it make sure it is dark they go to bed when they think u are in bed and make sure u put him/her in bed the same time every day. So anyway if u go to bed early dont. if u like to sleep late then yes put one over the same time everyday.

i suggest you cover it at night. i have one too, and all night if i don't cover it he's making noises all night and doesn't shut up! and also if i don't cover it, he'll be an unwanted EARLY alarm clock!
