I just started using a natural loofah to soften my skin. I know you should replace them every month, but how should I clean it between showers/baths? It's supposed to help remove dead skin, so I imagine theres a lot of stuff stuck in there that could promote bacteria.

I know that to disinfect my kitchen sponge I put it in the microwave for TWO minutes. I read to do that somwhere not sure where, but the logic seems similar so I would rinse it out well then nuke.

Put it back in the ocean and go get another one. Just joking. It's actually a plant you can grow and they grow pretty easy so I would suggest you to grow your own so you can just replace them whenever you want. If you don't have a garden they grow up along side any wall and all you have to do is dry them and dump out the seeds to use the following year. You can even grow them in a large flower pot. Just watch out for the thieving squirrels. They love to steal them and hide them in their stash spots. Try it. They are fun to grow and considered a novelty.

Maybe washing it once a week in the washing machine... don't use bleach. The hot/boiling water idea is a good idea too that I'd imagine would work well.

You could try rinsing it with boiling/hot water. Just don't scald yourself.
