Yes - it is the living breath of God and speaks life into the soul by breathing the Spirit of God into the spirit of man. It is unique, alive, powerful and "sharper than any two-edged sword, dividing asunder the soul and the spirit."

Ha Ha...I'd rather read the works of Chaucer. The Canterbury Tales is awesome. Wicked by Gregory McGuire is also wonderful. I prefer to read more interesting books. Obviously, you were looking for cheesy responses from your fellow Christians. Sorry to disappoint. Why do many Christians believe that the Bible and its doctrines is the best thing that ever happened to the planet? It's not people...it really isn't ha ha lol. Yes the Bible is a good tool that can teach you how to live, but I can get that from listening to an hour of motivational speaking. God will not strike you if you prefer to read other literature and find it more interesting than the Good Book lol!

Personally I hardly ever read the bible and when I do, it is only to look up information I need for research, then cast it across the room like I do with the other books I hate, because I do not believe a word of the bible.

On another note, because of the length, I must say that the bible does make a good bug killer in the middle of the night when you run out of Raid.

I liked Genesis and there's some cool stuff in Exodus but I think it goes downhill after that. It's really a matter taste. Certainly if you like reading about a grumpy god that makes war on the human race and sends floods, plagues, kills the firstborn of Egypt, turns a woman into salt, destroys whole cities and generally kills those that ticked him off you will love the Old Testament.

In the words of Mark Twain:
"It (the bible) is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies."

It is a collection of writings from hundreds of people that was edited (~50% cut) in the year +360. It contains contradictions, stories that fly in the face of modern science and math, and presents a micromanaging Deity.

In plain English - It should be made over as a comic book to be more presentable.

Considering it has been edited so often, whose version do you speak of? The Bible is not the book it once was. Various popes and kings and local leaders have all taken a stab at rewriting it to allow for new "schisms".

And no, I do not think it is.

There are other equally sacred texts upon planet earth. And these texts are just as valuable to those who follow those religions as the Bible is to Christians.

Yes. I think its the most beautiful story ever told. Even if it's a lie, it's a good one. I just wish there was more to it than what we have today. That can't be all that was written in the thousands of years that man has been around.

Not really. The Psalms are nice. There are many good and enjoyable books, many written about God that are more beautiful and moving. Just my opinion.
