I took my 3 month old puppy, Blossom, to get her rabies, DHLP, and Parvo/Corna vaccines yesterday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Later in the evening she would yelp in pain when I picked her up and she is also very listless and doesn't have much of an appetite. She is still yelping when I pick her up and I'm doing it very carefully. I'm assuming it's the injection site where she's hurting but could it be that these vaccines are making her feel ill as well? If so, when should she be back to her non-stop chewing, fisty little pig-let self again? It's been a while since I've had a little one and I've forgotten the symptoms. Please advise....

Generally that kind of reaction comes from the rabies shot, although the Lepto and coronavirus are also suspect. My vet won't do lepto on small dog puppies (they get them at 1 year instead).
This listlessness can last up to 3 days from the rabies shot.
Now just to share my exerience with my chihuahuas, I have always used a vet until last year for the rabies shot. I have always had them get sleepy and ouchy from the shot. Last year, I took three of mine and my 2 friends took their 3 to the rabies clinic last year. None of them had this reaction, not one. And this year we took five of those dogs back (for their 3 year shot) with the same result. The one group of vets doing the clinic this month (and last year at this time) give the rabies shot in the scruff of the neck rather than in the muscle. To be honest besides the cheaper price for the rabies clinic, the lack of the reaction you are seeing is what prompted me to return to the rabies clinic this year.

I agree with both posters. Never let the vet do more than one shot at a time, this way if there is a reaction, you will know which shot caused it. With 3 shots given, you do not know. Make sure she eats, drinks. Even if you have to use a little syring and put baby food into it at the back of her mouth. Make sure she eats. Yes on the Nutrical too. Her back wil be sore probably at least a day or so. For the first time, I have had a foster dog that got a lump after getting a rabies shot just recently. But I know what caused it at least. if she is listless 24 hours later, get some vet help.

It is normal for them to feel a little sick for a few days after vaccinations (especially since she got more than one vaccs at one time), and it sounds like she is just having a reaction to the vaccs. She is probably yelping because she is sore from the vaccinations. If she does not start feeling better in the next 24-48 hours, I would call your vet.

Its common for a pet to be lethargic after vaccines, however, I work at a vet and we usually don't give that many vaccines to a puppy all at one time. We don't want to over vaccinate and put them at risk of having a vaccine reaction. Anyways, give it 24 hours if she is not better or if she starts showing other signs, call your vet.

just the shots. massage the injection site gently. she won't like it, but it helps. my mini dach got 3 shots in one day, and was a big baby the entire day. she'll be fine. i don't know what breed she is, but watch for signs of allergic reaction (in the face) to the shots. dachs are sensitive, so the vet told me to watch for signs, and i could give him 5mgs of plain Benadryl if i saw puffiness. ask your vet in the morning if she doesn't seem better. i never had a dog before, so i worried about every little thing. i'm sure she's fine. i hope she feels better soon.
ps.- i cried when Tanner got his first shots. new mom syndrome. i hate to think of when i have children.

She has just had a reaction to the vaccine, just as human kids do when they get their baby shots... If she isn't better by morning, call your vet..Encourage her to drink fluids, and give her a bit of the NutraCal.

I accept as true with Jennifer, do no longer trojan horse her except informed to realize this via a vet. If she develops diarrhea from the trojan horse drugs she would be in a position to no longer be soaking up the food she so desperately needs. What you're feeding her is high quality. She needs carbs besides as protein, tremendously in case you think of she is hypoglycemic. which you ought to to examine with a look after on your section as they get malnourished canines each and every of the time and can possibly advise you what to do for her. stable good fortune to the two considered one of you.
