That sounds like a normal afternoon for most of the cats I've had.

But, yes, even an active cat will crash after getting shots.

I just wanted to say that domestic cats are not nocturnal, contrary to what you may hear. If cats were nocturnal, they would not be active at all during the day and anyone with cats know that cats are active day and night. Cats often adapt to their humans schedules and if the human is not around during the day, they will sleep more during the day. It does not sound like this is the issue with your cat but I wanted to mention it. About sleeping too much - have you telephoned the vet and discussed this with them? If not, do so. As to scratching on the floor around the litter box, many cats do this and if the litter box is near a wall, some cats will scratch at the wall as though trying to pull it down into the litter box. It looks funny to see a cat do this, you would think that they would realized that nothing is happening but I suspect that they are on autopilot when they are burying waste. The diarrhea could be caused by the changes in food. Stick to one food for a while and see what happens. Our experience with older cats, say older than 6 months, has been that food changes do not cause problems. We used to buy IAMS or Science Diet and switch between the two rather randomly with no problems. We know feed only Science Diet dry and some canned Friskies. A few days ago, I realized, at 10:30 PM, that there was not a enough dry food to last through the night - we have a "few" cats and they eat quite a bit at night. There was no store open that carries Science Diet so I went to the grocery store and got a bag of Purina One. I poured it into the food bowls and the cats ate with no problems - no one developed diarrhea. Another time - same situation late at night - I got a bag of IAMS and we had no problems. I think that food changes might affect very young kittens but with adults our experience (with 26 cats over 22 years) has been that food changes do not cause problems like diarrhea.

Think for a sec, do you ever feel like playing after getting a shot? Usually I want to relax and lay down.
Pretend you are your cat for a sec, just got traumatized by the vet, and then a shot, you come home, your probably tired from the long day. Give him some rest, He will be fine.

Your cat is fine, I am sure its just a wonderful side effect due to the shots. Didnt the vet tell you that your cat may be a little sleepy a day or so after his shots? Most vet offices explain that to you or send you home with papers that explain it to you as well. Dont worry your cat is fine.

no but just monitor him- if he stays the same way then call the vet and tell them your worries and if you need to take him back they should not charge you - it is relation to the shots they gave... If he had more than 3 then he may just be worn out- esp- if it is his first time to the vet and was probably scared and shakin up - He is probably thanking the good man above that he is back at home- give him a treat, tuna and if he doesn't come back "to play" call that vet! Let me know!

No, don't be worried, the poor thing has been traumatized. He has gone through a lot going to the vet and getting his shots. Think of how you feel when you get shots, and you are a lot bigger and know what you have just gone through. It is normal for a kitten to sleep a lot normally, and the poor thing is just recovering and will be back and playing very soon. Just let him get his strength back, let him get back to his food bowl, and then you will have your loveable friend back to annoy you.

Sounds normal to me. Our cats were out of it/tired for the rest of the day. The next day they were nearly normal. Well, perhaps not normal. Seems they've never really been normal ....... Oh well. Back to your question.

Lots of the vaccines and shots will drain a bit of energy from the cat so for them to sleep it off, so to speak, is normal. If it continues like this for a day or more ... check back with the vet.

He may be this way for a day or two. I wouldn't worry ,although they do sometimes have a reaction. My cats have usually acted this way for at least a day. I'm sure he will be fine tomorrow, if not call your vet to double check.

ya. don't worry. I am a vet so I know these things. The cats should sleep for about a day. maybe less. Don't worry there is nothing wrong with your cat.
