There are cults everywhere; Indianapolis is no different. Of course, what is a cult to one person may not be one to another. I have heard Jehova Witnesses, Scientology, Branch Dravidians, etc. and even Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists called cults.

I think if it's not the way you see religion, it's a cult. I don't know -- I guess if it is outside the mainstream and demands the members give up their autonomy and free will to a "charasmatic" leader figure, if it separates the member from his family and friends - that sounds like a cult to me.

Yes they are. They moved there from Baltimore years ago. They won the Super Bowl a few weeks back.

Oh... CULTS... sorry, I don't know.

There are some dangerous groups of 'soul reavers' in Indianapolis. The guy I knew, and later fell out with, was invovled with a geeky group that was Helenistic in nature and looked down on the idea of morals, ethics, and human kindness. (Helenistic = Greek dieties). They were role-playing, comic booky crowd, but they are adept at using negative energies and follow a predatory philosophy. Their main activity is trying to pull people out of their bodies. Indianapolis is bad, in my book. I will never go to that place again. The most useful thing is to learn how to redirect their directed negative emotions back at them. It's a water thing. Just about all they do is emotion based. Remember that when you add something, you must remove something to make it stick. Just like you must remove something, you must add something. That's why alot of exorcisms don't work, they remove the evil but don't replace it with anything. They aren't generally using their warmth, affection, acceptance, and other positive emotions. Use reversals and redirections and when you know it's working, make room for it to stick. Redirect their negativity back at them and pull their positive emotions out of them. Screw them suckers up, man. They really don't give you the option of 'playing nice', so kick them where it counts. If it's you or them, who are you going to work hard to make sure wins?
Other than them dorks, I know there's some kind of group of African-Americans that dresses in all white. They might be Houdoo or something, but I just don't know. I pissed them off due to my paranoia of not knowing when and where I was going to run into one of the other guys. The 'houdon' might not actually be actively harmful.
The Masons are a powerful and influential pressence in Indy. It's hard to tell them by looks alone. It's hard to know who they are, what they are doing, and whether they mean you any harm in the process.
Indy has many sacred sites. The statues of Athena outside of the downtown courthouse can be courted for protection. The big cemetary on 38th street has the grave of some famous Indy poet. His grave area has a shrine to Athena, marble statue, offering bench and all, at the highest point in the city. I don't know if this has anything to do with the Masons or not.
The pagan community there is cautious, even paranoid, mainly because they know there are some harmful elements seeking to infiltrate them. It's probably happened to them before, that might be why they're so 'open yet unwelcoming'. Watch out for the eastside, near and far. I was hounded for years by some folks who I just assumed were involved with the guy I used to be friends with. I may have just p!ssed out folks who really weren't out to harm me. I was a pretty nasty mess of paranoid protectionism at the time. Northside is stuffy, but safer. Westside's ok, just alot of partiers. Southside is redneck paradise. I don't know what to expect there. Downtown is Mason territory. Notice all the beautiful stonework, statues, and buildings downtown. It is lovely. Indy does have some nice things going for it, but please do watch your back.
