Whatever as long as I get my food and she isn't my sister.

I'd say it depends on the girl. I guess what I would ask you is, what's the worst that can happen? I would follow a few rules though. I wouldn't ask someone I shop from on a consistent basis (but at the same time, seeing her often would be a good way to get to know her a little and predict how she would react). I wouldn't ask every girl I meet (don't be "that guy"). Be aware that the girl might not know how to say no while at work. If I'm not totally sure how the girl feels, I generally ask her if she would like to grab a coffee sometime and offer to give her my number. It puts her in the position to give you a call if she actually wants to. It helps you avoid an awkward situation. Personally, I would only ask someone that I see on a consistent basis and have the chance to chit chat with. A place with fewer customers would let you make some small talk. If it's a larger place with many customers, try catching her off guard with a question. Sometimes when people working at a big company get in the groove, they become like zombies and even saying something like, "nice day eh?" or, "how are you?" in a genuine way, can wake them up. I find it's easy to tell in those few seconds if they want to talk to you or if they want you to go away. I hope you meet some great people. Be confident and do it!

Depends on the atmosphere of the shop. If it's corporate owned, they would probably frown upon such behavior. If it's a neighborhood place where it's cool with the boss to chat with friends or random customers, you can probably get away with it. But not if you do it with every cute girl that walks in.

The other side of the question is whether women want to be picked up by the person that sells them their coffee. You may get some unfavorable reactions that make it not worthwhile. Maybe some of our female Answerers can let you know what they think.

I think it would be okay to slip them your # if they seem interested. but to ask for their is a little out of place. And if I was a customer in this coffee shop and you were more into me than doing your work I might not be interested in you. I would think you are like this with all of your customers. The more subtle you are bout it the better off you will be.

What is your company's policy on dating the customers? You should check that out before doing anything else.
Also, are you single? If not, skip it!

Your employer might not like it, but it probably wouldn't bother the girls any. If you care about your job, I would be careful about that.

no you shouldnt. it could make things awkward if she doesnt feel the same way and she could tell your manager and you could get fired. if a girl is feeling you then she'll "accidentally" leave her number at your register.
