My hubby has aquired a Jeep that was thought to be in good shape but I fear that it is not. The front end was shaking @ high speeds (about 50+)and they replaced the traction bar, rotated the tires and aligned the front end. Didn't help. Now the part time light for the 4WD is going on and off and the 4WD doesn't even work (or we can't get it to). Can anyone give me some suggestions of what it could be? I am taking it back in on Monday and they will look at it for free unless they have to start tearing it apart to find the problem. I just wanna know what I might be getting into. Thank in advance for your help!!!

Are the tires correctly balanced? Does the jeep have a lift kit on it, if so the drivelines may not be balanced correctly. As for the 4WD, those jeeps had vacuum acuated front axles so there's probably a vacuum leak in the 4WD system causing it to not work properly.

the shake could be a number of worn parts... ball joints, TRE, steering box, unit bearings, ect... 4wd problems, I would check vacuum lines, the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) is vacuum operated, if the lines are damaged or disconnected the system will not function.

good luck

I would go with a jeep myself, but damn thats a lot of miles on either one! But if your wanting to go in the mountains you need a 4x4. I think you will be very disappointed with a 2wd chevy because no one likes getting stuck!
