Yesterday I made a pot of pinto beans in my crockpot. As I always do, I sorted the beans, removing rocks, discolored beans and any broken beans before putting them in the crockpot and adding water and allowing them to cook. I noticed however, after they were cooked, I found what looked like dead little white worms in the soup. There was no meat or anything else added to them. What were these worm looking things and where did they come from? And could they make me sick?

If the beans were well past their usable date ,the worms could be between the two halves of the bean or working their way onto it's substance, then again it may just be bits & pieces of the bean itself.having to pick through chaff, could mean the quality of the comtents was less than perfact. In any case i have a word of advice, when in doubt, just throw out, that is what i would have done, a waste no doubt but better than working yourself sick over it.

If the beans were not cooked they could not be worms. How could they get in ? Prob just pieces of beans and small rocks you may have missed

Sure, they came from the beans, they were inside them and you didn't notice them. No, they won't make you sick, but I wouldn't touch the stuff....

Sounds like sprouts...a possibility since you did clean and wash them there could not have been worms. Maybe they were on the verge of sprouting???
