Jesus said on another occasion:
"with men this is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible."
I believe one of the primary purposes of Jesus' teachings in the Sermon on the Mount was to expose our own inadequacies and inability to live up to the high standard God calls us to.
The first thing He said to them was "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God."
I believe what He was saying is our first need in becoming fit for the Kingdom of God is to recognize that we are spiritually bankrupt, and can't possibly live up to the standard of life God is calling us to. This is intended to bring us to the place where we get desperate for God to work a change in us so that we will be fit for the Kingdom and find the strength to live the life God calls us to. Remember Peter's brave words before Jesus' betrayal, that he was ready to die for Him. Then a few hours later he denied Him three times. But only a short time later in the Book of Acts we see a fearless Peter standing up to the religious leaders of Israel in the face of imminent death, and not backing down.
What's the reason for the change? In the interim between the first and second instance a profound spiritual transformation had occurred in Peter's life. He had been born again, according to John chapter 3. He speaks about this in his own letter, I Peter 1:23; "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever."
I believe this event in Peter's life is recorded in 2 accounts of the same event. One is in Luke 24:36-49, at which time Jesus "opened (his) mind to understand he Scriptures"; and also in John 20:19-23, when Jesus breathed on the disciples and said "Receive the Holy Spirit." This is what makes all the difference in the world - when we receive the Holy Spirit, the Spirit that dwelt in Jesus, then we find a new nature, the nature of the Lamb of God, who is willing to lay down His life for His friends.
Ask God for His Holy Spirit. He has promised to give the Spirit to those who ask. (Luke 11:9-13)
Peace to you!

Jesus grow to be bearing on the left cheek. The Message translation of this passage reads as follows: "right this is yet another old saying that merits a 2d look: 'Eye for eye, teeth for teeth.' Is that going to get us everywhere? right this is what I propose: 'do no longer hit lower back in any respect.' If somebody strikes you, stand there and take it. If somebody drags you into courtroom and sues for the shirt off your lower back, giftwrap your ultimate coat and make a recent of it. And if somebody takes unfair good thing about you, use the social gathering to coach the servant existence. not greater tit-for-tat stuff. stay generously." -Matthew 5:38-40 two (The Message)

Ask yourself what can possibly be gained by hitting the person back. Violence begets more violence. Do what I have done in the past and will continue to do in the future. Walk away and call the police. As human beings we have far too many opportunities to hurt each other, why perpetuate such things?

Logic and history throughout the centuries did not make turning the other cheek the best solution to wars or peace.

If some stranger slapped me? I'd probably just stand there in shock! But I wouldn't hit back, I have never been one for violence. I would, however, call a cop.

I would be in shock! Then I would probably walk away! If I knew the person I'd say "what was that for?"
If I didn't I would be scared. Probably get the heck out of there.
Interesting question.

I would run, actually it depends, if it was a women, I don't think there is much i could do because I don't hit women (unless they repeatably hit me) but a man would get more than a slap from me, it would be a closed fist.

I would lay them out on the ground and kick them in the head if they tried to get up.
Then I'd forgive them. But Remember you should always forgive, but never forget.
Turning the other cheek is metaphor.

Depends on the look on their face, man/woman etc. Once the shock wore off I would probably have a chuckle and enact my revenge if it was a dude. If it were a chick I'd grab her around the waist and lay one on her :D
