Is there special paint needed? I'm assuming special special rollers...I'll be painted it with rollers. But what kinds of variables do I need to consider.

It's quite simple really. You can use plain old exterior latex paint. You'll need to plan for 2 or 3 coats, depending on the color you use. All yellows need more coats, as do reds and purples. Yes, use a plain old roller for textured surfaces. Make sure it's warm enough outside to paint so that the new paint doesn't lift. Which means you can't paint if it's less than 17 degress farenheit. There aren't many variables... it's really easy to paint brick. Just make sure you use EXTERIOR paint. And no, you DO NOT NEED TO PRIME THE BRICK!

You need to apply a block filler first to prime and fill the cracks and crevices.

I highly recommend renting / borrowing / buying an airless rig.

Note: block filler is a form of primer designed for porous concrete or brick surfaces. It does not change the "brick" appearance.

no u want it to still look like brick or do u want to fill it in to make it look like a regular wall

well you should consider the color beacause if u keep it looking like brick(style) you won't want a color that isn't brick like (re, brown, black, tan?)

also it may crack or be bumpy is the brick smooth?

I don't know the answer--but it makes an older house look much younger....good luck...use a paint sprayer.
