There is only 1 place to get a free credit report and that's at annual credit report dot com nobody can give you a scored report for free but you can get your free one scored there for less cost. Each bureau by federal law must provide you with 1 report per year. Dont waste the other 2 reports. Get the experian report only. Review it, if theres items that need challenged get them removed, can take a month or so usually. Then pull the transunion report and see if the challenged items are gone. Then later in the year pull the Equifax report and have that one scored. This way you dont rack up excessive inquiries and can save a lot of money and grief. Once you have a clean report and decent score ( mid 600 + ) Go see a lender. The best other way is to just go to a loan office and pay them to pull a tri merged scored report. They might charge $20.00 but they can usually review it with you and explain the issues if any exist.

/ Negative ratings begin the moment you stop paying creditors ontime. These negative ratings stay on your credit report for 7 years BEGINNING with the date of paying off the debt. For Bankruptcy, it remains on your credit report for 10 years beginning with the date of paying off the debt. In bankruptcy, you still pay a small amount on the dollar. Your report will start to improve the moment you start paying off your past debts, but very little at first.
