I am not the baker! But it was really important to me to make my son's FIRST cake. Ever! We did a color theme instead of a character theme. We did Lime Green, Orange, and Brown. (fall Party) My son was too young to have a favorite character, and frankly I thought it was kind of silly. We always bought him elmo stuff, and turns out his favorite was cookie monster! I'd go with a color theme, or a seasonal theme. The next year we did a fall/pumpkin theme. Even though he loves Wonder Pets, and Mickey Mouse, we decided on more of a neutral theme. Then my mom and grandma were able to bring decorations from home instead of buying paper throw away decorations. Just a suggestion! It meant so much to me, that the first cake my son ever made was home made by me :) We did cupcakes with our color theme. The next year, my pumpkin cake was a disaster, but its a funny story that my husband and I still laugh about. I'm going to try to make all of my children's birthday cake. I mean, its only once a year :)
