This is a medical question to which I have no answer. However, I'm inclined to say, "No," unless the gum gets caught in the throat and causes one to choke.
I'm a middle school teacher, and frequently, I'll say, "Get rid of that gum," to which the little darling will reply, "I ain't got no gum."
He/she will then open wide and stick out his tongue as proof, but I know there's a big pink wad of Dubble Bubble sliding south toward her tummy. Good news is, I've never lost a sixth grader yet to this practice, and Lord knows, some of 'em must have a belly full of the stuff!

Almost everyone has swallowed a piece of gum. But only a very few people ever need to see a doctor because of it.
Chewing gum is made up of the gum itself (called gum resin), preservatives, flavorings, and sweeteners. The human body is unable to digest the gum resin. But swallowed gum does not stay in the stomach or cause intestinal problems. That's because our bodies move most materials that can't be digested (like gum) through the digestive system and out of our bodies in a bowel movement.
In very rare cases, swallowing a large mass of gum, or many small pieces of gum over a short period of time, can block the digestive tract. Blockages in the digestive system are most likely to happen when gum is swallowed along with other non-digestible things (like sunflower seed hulls).
Although people cannot digest gum resin, we can digest the things that have been added to chewing gum, such as sweeteners or even medications (think of the nicotine gum used by people trying to quit smoking). The body absorbs these just through the act of chewing. This is where chewing gum can affect a person's health: When a person chews a lot of sugary gum, the calories can really add up.
Sugary gum also can lead to tooth decay and may damage dental work, like fillings. That's why dentists recommend people chew sugar-free gum, and then only one or two pieces a day. But even this has its downside: Chewing too much sugar-free gum that's been sweetened with an ingredient called sorbitol can give a person diarrhea. And too much cinnamon-flavored gum can irritate the lining of the mouth.

very almost honestly everyone has swallowed in simple terms slightly gum in some unspecified time sooner or later. yet very few people ever could see a physician by using fact of it. Chewing gum is produced from the gum itself (referred to as gum resin), preservatives, flavorings, and sweeteners. The human physique isn't able to digest the gum resin. yet swallowed gum does not stay in the tummy or reason intestinal issues. it quite is by using fact our bodies pass maximum components that may not be in a position to be digested (like gum) for the duration of the digestive equipment and out of our bodies in a bowel pass. In uncommon situations, swallowing a large mass of gum, or many small products of gum over a quick volume of time, can block the digestive tract. Blockages in the digestive equipment are likely to ensue while gum is swallowed alongside with different indigestible issues (like sunflower seed shells). despite if people won't be able to digest gum resin, they could digest the flaws that have been extra to chewing gum, inclusive of sweeteners or perhaps drugs (think of of the nicotine gum used via people attempting to supply up smoking). The physique absorbs those in simple terms for the duration of the act of chewing. it is the place chewing gum can impression a individual's well being: while a individual chews somewhat some sugary gum, the energy can upload up.

There is no real health problems associated with swallowing gum. "Though your stomach can't break down a piece of gum the same way it breaks down other food, your digestive system can move it along through normal intestinal activity (in other words, it comes out the other end.)"
It can be hazardous if choked on though. Check out this web site for more information.
