Repent is a military term that means turn around and go the other way. So you could only repent hitting someone back one time, because when you repent, you do not do it again.

Some people think that repent means to ask God to forgive you.
That has already been done on the cross.
Repent means to turn from the wrong direction and go the right direction.

People will always continue to attack if they get a response. Remember the schoolyard bully? He(or she) would tease and tease and tease, so long as (s)he got a response.

To some extent, I think the "Back To The Future" films address this issue. "Nobody, but nobody calls me CHICKEN!" That's what always got Marty into trouble. You need to learn to pick your fights.

If someone attacks you, you are allowed to DEFEND yourself. But you are not encouraged to go back at them just because they attacked you. This is the kind of behaviour that leads to the worst fights and arguments in relationships:
"You always leave the toilet seat up!"
"Yeah, well, you always leave the toothpaste top off!"
"You're a filthy liar!"
"Well you're a dirty whore!"

That doesn't solve anything.
"You always leave the toilet seat up!"
"Why does it bother you? I just forget. I'll try do better in the future. But if I try to remember to do that, will you try to remember to put the top on the toothpaste? I really hate when it's left off."

That way, you can deal with the issue(s), and get on with (hopefully, a happier) life. If you understand what I mean, and you hear it and heed it, then you will repent.

Jesus said (but I can't be bothered finding the quote) "There will be more rejoycing in Heaven over one repentant sinner than over an entire legion of Angels." Or something similar.

LOL - of course they could, like any other sin - but repenting would involve making it up to the person, don't forget!
When Jesus said to turn the other cheek he was contrasting it with the "eye for an eye" doctrine. Which had bben put with another purpose. When God gave the law to Moses, He knew people would exact punishment from whoever harmed them. So God put limits on that punishment. You don't kill somebody for knowcking somebody's eye out. You don't blind him either.
He was not saying you HAD to exact that penalty. Just that you were not allowed to demand more than that.
The "turn the other cheek" doctrine was not necessarily complete passivism, although some believers do interpret it that way. For instance, I don't think you are meant to allow someone to kill you. It's just that you don't demand revenge. You can physically prevent someone to do harm, you can surely do harm in protecting your family or others from a criminal. It's the personal revenge we are not meant to seek.

anything that you have ever done can be repented for. repentance means to turn away from it and really change. I think if you plan to do wrong with the intent of repenting later you miss the whole point of repentance. repentacne is not about getting forgiveness as much as it is about being willing to be changed by a loving God. just my thoughts. if you hate my answers just turn the other cheek...lol

Look, the notion of 'turning the other cheek' is just wrong. If you believe in that, you have very low self-esteem. If someone comes up and attacks you--verbally or physically--THAT'S IT.
You do whatever it takes to ensure that person never does that again.
I'm not the biggest, strongest girl in the world by any means, but if anyone antagonizes me, they're gonna pay for it. I'm not gonna sit there and take it. And that's the way it should be!

The phrase "turn the other cheek" is not meant to be taken literally. It means that there is always an underlying reason for someone lashing out and that understanding the reason (or at least that there is a reason) and forgiving them is divine.

Wanting to hurt them the way they hurt you is human but not divine.

Want to be Biblical?
Call the cops.

Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Rom 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil.

You cannot repent but you can be forgiven without guilt but consequences could enter in.
