Back pain had many many cause, usually it is located between the L4 L5 vertebra, but it really depends on age, what you were doing and if you have a history of osteoarthritis or calcium deficiency in your family. If you doctor is not giving you answers you need to see a specialist. I don't recommend a chiropractor if the cause is NOT muscular.

Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it.

Most back pain (about 90%) does heal in about 6 weeks. The other 10% progress to being chronic pain. It sounds like you have unfortunately landed in the 10% group. Ask your primary care physician for a referral to the appropriate doctor whether it be orthopedic, neurosurgery, or interventional pain management. After 2 years, interventional pain management may be your best bet.

Go back to the ortho doc and get things checked out. Find out what is causing the problems. The doc cannot possibly know that you are still having problems if you don't tell him. He is not a mind reader. See him/her and get checked.

but from what if have heard, once you have back pain then you always have back pain.
Good luck to you
