I remember taking the state class and they were talking about not needing insurance if you have car insurance. But if you cross the state line into Idaho you would need insurace or other states. But the instructor strongly suggested that you have insurance. I would suggest you do furthur research before deciding......

No you don't. But British Columbia, Oregon, and Idaho do require it. So if you leave the state, you need it. Also, if you are in an accident and damage lots of property, it is possible for the police to detain you or arrest you until you post bail. This is a way of making sure you will pay the amount you own. You aren't charged, just detained until you are in their system or whatever. But I just heard this from an instructor.

Motorcycle insurance is not required in Washington,get the manuel though because you do have to have the motorcycle endorsement on your license to drive legally.

You'll want insurance even if your state doesn't require it. If you hit someone or they hit you or you destroy someone's property you'll be glad you have insurance, as it pay's for the damages. You can be sued for the damage of what ever you hit. Also if your bike is stolen you get money back from insurance to buy a new one. Insurance helps plays for all of this.
