There are alot of valid points from the answers above, starvation is not the way to go because the body will break down your muscle first as energy leaving the fat behind....dun really understand why cow hormones was mentioned, but again they are for cow's not for humans, any type of mineral/vitamin for humans is added during the pasterization process.
If you are willing to spend the money here are two good diets, Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers, both I have found work using a glycemic index, more protein, less carbs, more satisfying.
I know I've been on the nutrisystem now for two weeks and have already lost 7 pounds, which is extremely good for someone with a heart problem such as myself.
I do not strave, I am more than full and you even get to have chocolate, peanut butter and cake!

Diets don't work.
If you're in North America then leave. Go to Europe or Asia or anywhere for that matter. Here's why: The food supply here is full of hormones and steroids. They do this to increase the size of the livestock so they can sell you more meat. Our dairy products are over pasteurised - to the extent that all cheeses pretty much have the same bland taste. Our vegetables are genetically modified. That's the garbage we're eating and that's the reason why we're the fattest people on the planet. Whenever I travel to another country I lose weight - no matter how much I eat. This happens EVERY TIME I travel. I travel to Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Tahiti (boy did I pig out there), Venezuela,....... pretty much everywhere. While I'm in the U.S. I ALWAYS gain weight - no matter how much I try to lose it. Tried excercise, and pretty much every diet around and nothing works. The pounds just keep piling on - unless I travel to other countries.

Athera78: Diets just don't work! The minute you stop with your diet be it Weight Watchers or wharever (I've done them all) - you'll gain everything back and then some additional weight! I'm telling you - EVERY TIME I travel to another country I eat as much as I want and when I want - then come back to the United States weighing less!!! That's a fact. Has it ever occurred to you that people in other countries don't do diets? It's also a fact that we are the fattest nation on earth - yet all we do is diet and excercese! I don't know anyone personally in Europe who goes to the gym on a regular basis - yet here it seems like everyone does. The only difference between us and other nations is our food supply.

Just not eating would work the fastest but also very unhealthy.

Being over weight is simple, you take in more calories then you burn off in a day (at that point they get converted to fat)
The resons are different including medications, diet, physical activity, metabolism, and more.
Whether the calories are from fat or carbohydrates you need to reduce the amount you consume and excersize to burn off what you do. Fad diets are unhealthy and as soon as you quit you put the weight right back on.

first of all, animal hormones can't affect you...

Why? Because they are for ANIMALS. Drink a bottle of cow hormones and you know what it will do... Nothing! WHY? Because its for COWS! They don't work on humans!

As for losing weight in the shortest amount of time?

Try a liquid diet. Those always seem to work well.

The starvation diet. But of course if you want to continue living and not regain the weight afterwards, then what you really need is to change your lifestyle to a healthy one with healthy foods and exercise, not some artificial diet. What good does it do to lose weight when you are just going to regain it by continuing unhealthy habits?

The best diet is to eat your prescribe meals a day and exercise. It is proven to work 100% better than all those american diets out there. Why do you think Europeans are thin.
