I have a red-sided eclectus and a greater indian hill mynah. Apart from words, they have picked up a lot of sounds that they have found to be interesting like coughs, sneezes, the telephone, cars driving by and a little barking dog. The eclectus, has a low, angry croaking/growling sound he makes when he is annoyed which very soon accompanies a bite. However, if your conure doesn't bite when he makes that sound, it could just be something he has picked up. Conures are very good at mimicking so he could actually be trying to say something or mimic a sound. Keep praising him and interact with him so he keep trying.

All parrots growl, I got mine when she was a baby, so she could not have heard it from anyone. She likes it if I try to imitate her and growl back. Also mine would hear something and growl, like she was saying, what is that, asking a question.

my indian ringneck growls at me quite alot. but he is just testing me. he never bites either.
i think alot of the time they are just testing you to see whhat you will do. its like when a bird bites when you go "OUCH" thats what they want. they want a reaction.
its nothing to worry about.

catch
