Ever since my daughter recovered from strep and the flu (noted by her doc.) She has been sleeping alot! I mean i understand in children the sickness wears them down. However this is bad. She WILL not eat anything, she sits and picks and complains that she is NEVER hungry, then she goes to bed, 2 days ago she slept from about 8 in the morning til 6pm, then when back to sleep and slept until 7:30 am, Yesterday she went to sleep at 4pm, and slept til 10:00 this morning then she turned around went bk to sleep and slept til 4pm, and is now sleeping again and has been since about 5pm. we have tried to wake her and she keeps saying she is too tired and goes bk to sleep. I talked to the doctor and they said theres not much they can do. However wouldnt you think that if she hasnt been eating, and sleeping all the time that it could lead to something bad? PLEASE HELP she is 4 years old.

I checked her for mono, basic stuff (chin to chest) moving her neck around etc. She complained about some neck pain on the right side of her neck, I checked her glands and they dont seem to be bothered. However i checked the area of her spleen also and she explained it to be very sensitive to touch, so it all comes down to yes she could have mono. But i remember as a kid when i had it all they did was tell me to drink lots of fluids and rest alot, and that it will be out of my system in 4 weeks. Anyone else heard different?

Mono mabey, I'm not saying she went off and kissed some little 4 year old kid, but it's possible to catch it a different way, drinking from the same cup as someone who had mono, from the same water fountian if the infected person touched the spout with thier lips. Ask you doctor about the possibility of mono.

Try to get liquids in her. The eating thing could be her system out of whack still. The liquids are important though. Keep an eye on her til Monday. If she's still sleeping alot, take her to the doctor and make them check her over. I know colds, flu, strep, and mono have been going around in our schools for about 3 weeks now. Remember though, liquids of any kind.

give her some pepsi or gingerale get some caffine in her and just try to do fun stuff with her even if she doesnt want tot do it. this might sound mean but u really need to see if she is ok. put her in front of the tv an see how long it takes her to fall asleep then play a game and see how long it takes. if u really think it is bad (it might take a little money though) take her to the er and see what they say? and how long has it been going on (days?) when i was little i did that once and it was just because i was iron deprived i forget the name for it. i was like 2 years old. and all i did was sleep so check out that too.. i hope i was a little help. and i hope she feels better

Questions:
1) Is she on antibiotics for her strep throat?
2) Does she still have a fever?
If she is not on antibiotics and she had strep throat, you must take her to the ER immediately to get some IV antibiotics. Strep is very dangeous if not treated and can spread to other parts of the body and to the heart in the worst case scenario.
If she has a fever, you must bring her to the ER immediately. It sounds like some infection is going on and it must be taken care of.
Personally if it were my daughter, I would have taken her back to the doctor a couple of days ago. If they told me not to come, I'd have brought her right to the ER. Something is not right.

I would call the doctor again and insist that you bring her in to be looked at and if they seem reluctant take her someplace else. She is your child and you are there with her and if you are concerned then they should take another look and make sure that something else isn't going on. I know that infuenza if hard on your body and sleep part of the recovery process but it wouldn't hurt to have her looked at again. If she is not eating or drinking she can dehydrate. I would insist that they see her. You will feel better.

Try to get lots of fluids in her if you can. Water, juice, milk, pedialite, anything. If she is getting a lot of fluids, she should be OK. Also try foods that are easy on her tummy like broth, jello, ginger ale. However if you are really concerned (and as a parent only you can make that call) Then take her to the emergency room.

Sounds to me like your doctor has it all wrong. I think you should go and get a second opinion from a completly different doctor.......from listening to what you said I think she may have mono. There are many ways to get it and it can last a long time if untreated. I would go as soon as possible to see if thats what she has.

I'd talk to the doc again...lethargy in a child is indicative of serious sickness, sometimes dangerous. she may have some kind of a secondary bacterial infection...just my opinion...but lethargy in a child should be taken very seriously, your doc should know that.

She may still be feeling ill. Or the after effects of it. Get her to drink pedialite or gaderade to keep her hydrated. Also to get her to eat give her ice cream, yogurt, or even soups or rice. Hope this helps.
