I don't judge others based on their beliefs but on their actions.

ah, but that's not true. You are making a huge generalization. It frustrates me how people lump all members of a certain faith together. I have read the Bible, and I'm an Atheist (also, atheists don't have a holy book...). I also know plenty about the Christian "culture" as you chose to put it. However, to answer your question, some Christians and Atheists judge members of the other religion simply because they believe something different. Each thinks that the other is wrong simply because they don't believe what they consider is right, when in truth both Atheists and Christians are just people trying to understand the world they live in and sort out what they believe.

oh yeah, and for the poster above who said "When someone says they are an Atheist.....I think of a person that doesnt believe in God. I really dont want someone that has no conscience on my friend's list."

just because I am Atheist does not mean I have no conscience. It simply means that I don't get my conceptions of right and wrong from a religion, but rather from the belief that it is wrong to do things that harm others.

Almost every single atheist I know has read the Bible. Several times in some cases. A lot of them have also read holy text from other religions as well.

A lot of atheists have read that book the bible. And I don't judge the group as a whole. Not every christian is the same.

I am going to judge you because your question is so stupid. Firstly, atheists do not have holy books. And secondly, many if not most atheists used to belong to religious groups (mainly Christian in my experience). In my experience atheists from a Christian background often know the bible better than most Christians.

People are very confused about the nature of "judgment".
Disagreeing, dissenting, etc. are not "judgment".
Believing YOU are superior because your beliefs are "better" IS judgment.
It is often true that people of different belief systems judge each other. It is also true that trying to convince anyone of anything without understanding the primary opponent to your argument is fairly wasteful of energy/effort.

I'm VERY familiar with both belief systems (though some would disagree with my assessment of Athiesm as a belief system, instead saying that the burden of proof is on those who are religious to prove their point, but I counter that if they have shut the idea of God existing out as impossible, then, without proof, they have precluded one hypotheses from every forming should sufficient evidence be gathered, which makes "God does not exist" a belief).

I strongly urge both sides to read about the other, learn from each other. If, at the very least, you listen to the advice, "know thine enemy", you'll find common ground somewhere and help all of us grow in knowledge and wisdom.

Keep speaking up, everyone.

You're seriously mistaken. The majority of Atheists were brought up being force-fed religion, have read the Bible, and have done a significant amount of research into religion in general. That is why we came to the conclusion that no higher power exists.

I'm an atheist and I know more about Christianity than the average Christian. Yes, I have read the Bible and most of the Quran. I was raised Christian, so I know the Christian culture. I have a Muslim girlfriend and have learned about their culture, too.

Don't assume that atheists are ignorant of religion. In general, we're not. And don't assume that our judgement of others is baseless.

I spent 30 years as a Christian. Now I am an atheist. How could I not know about Christianity?

most Atheist's have read your holy books. and studied your culture, that is what they do.

I am Pagan, and part of my religion is studying the religions of my neighbors, in the digital age that includes the world.
