FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING YOU FEEL SAD FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT TAKE PHOTOS, I AM SAD FOR PEOPLE WHO DO.
BECAUSE THEY ARE SPENDING THEIR "REAL TIME" IN THEIR VACATION RECORDING IT FOR LATER.
AND PLUS DONT YOU FEEL SAD LOOKING AT PICTURES FROM THE PAST ALL THE TIME???
I THINK I WOULD RATHER LIVE MORE IN THE PRESENT.

Most of us don't get to travel all that often, and the pictures we take help us to relive the wonderful times we experience on a trip. Memories fade, and looking at the pictures trigger recollection. I really feel sorry for anyone who does not take pictures to help them recall and re-experience the special, wonderful times of their lives. Personally I don't take video, as that requires too much formality, but I love browsing through old pictures and having a few of the best from each trip framed and up on the wall. Some people keep journals; I take pictures.

If you take pride in taking good pictures, framing and composing each shot also focuses your attention on what is in front of you, so you see it better and in more detail just because you are selecting the important elements of your surroundings for the picture. When I don't have a camera with me (a rarity) I mentally compose pictures and try to remember the imaginary "photos."

I take a lot of pictures. When I need a mental break I look at photos of whales in New Zealand, black sand beach in Hawaii, the Sydney Opera House. Not as good as being there, but the pictures help trigger memories - driving on the "wrong" side of the road in New Zealand, with the snow capped mountains sweeping amost all the way to the ocean, and sea lions basking in the sun. A picture helps to recapture the moments.

I love taking pictures, and now that digital cameras are so inexpensive, I can take a thousand of them and keep what I want...print some...and ditch the rest.
I took some great pictures on my last trip and had them blown up and framed. Now they're on the wall in my office and every day when I look at them, I take a little vacation.

They took pictures so as to recap all their travel experiences when they are older. As you get older, you are unable to travel more due to some inconvenience. So the only way is to see the photos they took last time. Or another reason could be they took it to share with their friends/relatives or the travel is of special moments with your dear one..so it's worth a memorial item.
