My son always gets these red blotches on him on and off, somedays they are worse than others. He gets them on the back of his thighs, insides of his elbows, and his lower torso mainly. He has two spots on the back of each thigh that always seem to be there, somedays they are bright red and noticable and other days they are faded an less noticable but always there. Tonight I went to give him a bath and he had them all over the backs of his thighs, those two spots were bright red, he had the blotches all over his lower torso, the insides of his elbows and this time he even had them on the front of his thigh. Anybody have any idea what this could be? Everytime I want to take him to the doctor, they are never there..except those two spots which are faded. I can't ever seem to get to the doctors when they are bad because they always seem to be worse at night than during the day. I always notice them when I am getting him ready for bed.

Get in to see a dermatologist. Most pediatrician have so little training in skin disorders they might not be able to identify the problem. No offense to the pediatricians, but it's true.

Use unscented Dove soap, unscented/dye free laundry detergent and fabric softener All free detergent and Downy Free are what I use.

Best of luck with your sensitive baby!

I know you asked this question a while ago, but without reading what other people have said, I can tell you this is eczema.

My daughter has had this since birth. If you have a camera to hand, take photos (under good lighting) of it at its worst. Show the doctor your photo. you may find a product called Balneum Plus bath oil (availible on prescription) will help to moisturise your son's skin, and ask for DiproBase cream to really ease suffering. If it gets bad, you may want to ask for some hydrocortisone, but you can only use this sparingly and for a few days at a time.

If you don't want the medicinal route though, buy an aloe vera plant and use the sap from it...it is really good for the skin and has helped with my daughters eczema.

It's common for it to disappear at the doctor's office though!

Sounds like allergies.Do you have any pets? Allot of possibles, cows milk, wheat products, allot of fruits are on the allergy list, citrus, strawberries, kiwi. Make a search on the net for a list of common foods for allergies. Do you or dad have hay fever, asthma, or eczema? The problem is your son is to young for an allergy test yet. I believe at 6yrs. they will do it. Until then it is more like a slow process of elimination to discover what may be causing the rash. Of course see the Dr, when you can.

It sounds like ecsema to me. My daughter has it REALLY bad only hers are raised and feel scratchy. They don't really go away either unless I use her prescription hydrocortisone cream. Maybe he just has a milder case though. It can sometimes be triggered by mild allergies to foods or fabrics and/or clothing detergent. My daughters ecsema is always worse after her bath too, try dousing him in Eucerin cream twice a day. Hope this helps

my baby brother gets the sme rashes. my mom had them checked out and the doctor said that he was allergic to lots of things. the best thing to do is get sudafed tablets and some rash clearing lotion. have him take the sudafed twice a day and rub the spots where he gets the rashes with lotion when you dress him in the morning

it could be a sign of Rosacea.....my husband has had it all his life......your son is having some kind of skin rash....could be caused by an allergy or a type of food/drink.....make an appointment with a skin doctor and have him tested for a skin deorder.

Have you looked at pictures of eczema?

You could also try taking photos of the rash for your doc.
