World War III?

Any prediction as to when World War 3 will begin? I think Bush will start it before he leaves office.

Where have you been? World War III has already been here and gone (it is more commonly referred to as the Cold War).

We're in World War IV now (a.k.a. the Long War and the Global War on Terrorism).

The World Wars haven't always had clear start dates.

For example, it took a while for a consensus to form regarding when World War II started. Most people now say it was when Germany invaded Poland. But, you could make a pretty good argument that it began when Japan invaded Manchuria.

The jury is still out on when World War IV began. So, you can take your pick: the Iranian Revolution, the Iranian seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran, the bombings of the American Embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut, the bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the attack on the USS Cole, the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, the bombing of the World Trade Center, the air attacks on the World Trade Center & Pentagon, and those are only the incidents that leap immediately to mind (and only attacks against America).

could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk WORLD WAR.

Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

On 9/14 The President declared war on terrorists, and stipulated there whereabouts, supporters, contributors, conspirators, and allies were one and the same....this IS a world war, and it is as fine a reason to have one as any other reason would have been, or would be.
Hopefully, it will not go nuclear...and hopefully it's reason ability and rationality and purposes will eventually prevail.
As for how long it will last,..that's a difficult thing to determine, because the 'war' was declared with out limitation, or identity's, or clearly defined 'enemy's'...see the problem..?
If I remember correctly, 'War' was declared by this president before he had held the office a year.

WW3 will begin as soon as any big state like Russia , China or India try to protect and defend its dignity and say NO to the USA .Or may be it will take place when USA try to control the economy of the entire world.
Bush will not start this war as long as he is busy with Iraqi war in which he is the big loser.

it has already started, it started in the 70 when the US was first attacked by terrorists, and then in the 80, 90, and we finally started to do something once 911 happened, when will we in the US finally realize that we have been fighting this war for decades. if you don't believe me, think about how many time the world trade centers were attacked, before 911, how many time do they have to attack us, most people think that it's just 911. the U.S.Cole, kobar towers, what else do we need to have happen before the slumbering giant wakes up for good?

I wish Americans would not refer to 911 as the beginning of World War III.
911 was an attack against America; NOT THE WORLD.
George Bush was hell bent on bringing the rest of the world into the fray to justify HIS retaliation, NOT against those who attacked America but whomever HE DECLARES to be EVIL.

^^^^The guy above me is right it did start in the seventies and has been going on for a while,it is about time a President has taken steps to eliminate the terrorists.

It started when terrorists started the war to wipe out Americans.It's not a world war yet,but with some help from liberals the terrorist might just make it one.Bush hasn't started anything , but I trust he will finish it.
